Six questions for John
1. What was your first job in radio? Early influences?
My first radio job was at WKIX in RALEIGH, NC - which is where Rick Dees started. I did the weekend news and played the religious tapes on Sunday. I used to listen to Paul Harvey and did a bad imitation of him on the air.

2. What led you to a career in radio? Was there a defining moment, which made you realize "this is it?"
When I was a kid I was always putting on fake radio programs for the kids in the neighborhood. And although my parents wanted me to be a doctor and it was my area of study in college, I eventually switched majors because I missed the excitement of creating radio programs.

3. What makes your show unique? How does this compare to other stations you have worked at?
The "INTELLIGENCE FOR YOUR LIFE" idea grew out of a need that we found mostly in women, where they were way too busy to read all the magazines they wanted to read, watch all the television news programs they want to watch, and basically get all the info they need to protect and enrich their families.

One of our mottos is "You may not have time to read all the magazines and surf all the internet sites, but we do. Let us do the heavy lifting for you."

4.  Besides the music you play on Magic 105.1, what other music do you like?
I really love Country. And I think that Country artists write songs that are changing people's lives.

5. What's your best advice?
A. Never make a decision based money.
B. Never mix wine with beer

6. How did you get your on-air name?
My on air name is John Tesh but in junior high and high school I was known as "Yuck, Tesh."

About John

If you follow his career, it becomes obvious that music has always been Tesh’s main passion. In 1996, after 10 years as co-host of “Entertainment Tonight,” he surprised many by leaving the highly visible position to pursue his career as a fulltime musician.

Tesh recently released the family-friendly CD and DVD, which is also a national television special. Tesh’s first live Red Rocks concert from 1993, was a best-selling Gold CD.

Tesh’s radio show focuses on a concept he calls "Music and Intelligence For Your Life."

"I'm at a time in my life when I want my own personal reality show to be aimed at helping others," Tesh says. "Planting seeds and encouraging people with the program and my music is a method with which I am truly comfortable."

With three gold albums,  six Emmys, two Grammy nominations, awards from the Associated Press and Keyboard Magazine, several number one radio hits, three hit PBS specials and two tours as an Olympic announcer & composer, it’s obvious that Tesh has a drive for versatility.

Tesh and his wife, actress Connie Sellecca, lives with his eleven-year old daughter Prima and his 23 year old son, Gib.
